Welcome to)

This is my Visual Artist Portfolio.

One of my principles is to establish an open dialogue in five points so that you can get to know me better, as well as the whole concept, among other aspects of my artworks.

My name is Pedro Magalhães,

(PMagallães) aka B!!CAD.

I'm an emerging artist who works in a multidisciplinary way in Visual Arts, New Media/Product Design and Music.

I am from the city of Santarém (Portugal), born on the 1st of September 1979.

Among many other things you can discover about me as an artist.

I am also a Plastic Arts Teacher, working with children and young people in schools in Portugal and Angola.

Experimentation

From a very early age and certainly because of the education I had, based on a more ecological conscience, I tried to reuse materials using the same way until today.

Often resorting to garbage for the construction of my works.

[I always thought the Assemblage was funny, even without knowing what it was when I started (1994) to do some things to present at school.

I also always tried to style my clothes and objects, even recreating the fashion brands of that time, through the practice of stenciling.

He also tried to recreate props in school workshops,  making it possible to have artefacts from my favorite movies at home.]

In 1997, I entered a professional course in Environmental Management where I better broadened my horizons, not only of greater environmental awareness but also on an artistic level, awakening my taste for Sculpture again. Leading me to start the technique of carving dry branches picked up from the ground.

Later I completed other technical training, such as Audiovisuals, up to the Degree in Fine Arts and Multimedia.

Route

I started my journey in Plastic Arts practicing oil and acrylic painting, which I still apply in some of my works.

However, he had already done illustration works (vintage bistro) on murals, in restoration spaces.

[I must say that Graffiti has always fascinated me, I have seen for the first time in 1988 (age 9), a mural to be painted, in Stuttgart.

The colors were vibrant, fluorescent tones and to help, the players were punks who walked in sk8. (Today Graffiti is associated with other urban tribes, linked to Rap and Hip-Hop.)]

Maybe because of what I saw in Germany I was infected and that's why I always felt a strong connection with Street Art, wanting to be part of it and learn more.

As many writters (Graffiti artists) develop the practice of their art clandestinely using graffiti bombing, it also gave me encouragement to develop what I currently practice, believing it to be an innovation in the current urban art panorama, and therefore I defend that Street Art is not just Graffiti!!

Creation

My current record is multidisciplinary, and I believe it to be my identity.

All the work involves creating a symbiosis with various disciplines such as Sculpture, Painting and Illustration.

I explore the three-dimensional, producing sculpture pieces that I make entirely handmade, being designed and created based on cardboard and PU foam, undergoing various processes until their final finish.

[Perhaps it is a very unique record, through a new way of producing art, seeking to be challenging and more sustainable.]

The pieces are also prepared to be installed in various environments, taking into account the different weather conditions.

References

[I always enjoyed getting to know other peoples, their customs and artistic expressions.]

I have other influences such as family roots and their ethnographic connections which I have always had a great fascination with from an early age.

Obviously, this is something I really appreciate and it tends to do with my essence, being reflected in all my artistic expressions.

In 2019 I attended two schools in Angola, Saurimo and Luanda. In Saurimo I made an installation on the interior wall of a bar under the painting (stencil) and the modeling of paper on the local culture, “Cokwé” (northern Angola).

He also worked as an Aderectist in Theater and TV, and maybe that's why his works are scenographic, pointing not only to a new way of producing contemporary art but also in the quest to innovate urban art.

Space

I have an atelier in Lisbon, whose name is recognized through various social networks such as "Be Cool Art Design".

Check out some works to understand my concept and get in touch for more information.

A hug and see you soon!
